Ten Things to do in New York

Time magazine released a list of ten things to do in New York City, and I thought I'd relay it to here in case you hadn't read it.
  1. Time Warner Center - “But what a mall!” says Time. It's got some really neat stuff in there, though I haven't visited it yet.
  2. West Village Stroll – This place is kind of interesting, but good luck navigating it if you've never been there before. Time recommends just walking and see where you end up.
  3. Film Forum – If you're into movies, this place houses all sorts of indie films and documentaries for those of you who are into that sort of thing.
  4. Grimaldi's Pizzeria – BEST PIZZA EVER. Don't argue. Just go.
  5. Empire State Building – Duh. You don't even need to read the Times to know this is a place to see in NYC.
  6. Little Branch – Popular singles hot spot, or so I hear. Also great for those of you who enjoy perfectly made drinks.
  7. P.S. 1 Contemporary Art Center – I've never been, but it's apparently a big place for the art of the future.
  8. Bergdorf Goodman – Not for a hard-working student's salary. If you've got green oozing out of your pores, this is exactly where you should be shopping.
  9. Bowery Ballroom – Excellent place to go see musicians. It's got a bar downstairs, as well.
  10. Grand Central Terminal – You see this all the time in the movies, it's sort of surreal and fun just standing in the middle of this place and taking it all in.
Thanks to Time Magazine for the inspiration.

Laith Is Feeling Generous Today

I have been blessed recently and I am feeling generous. Plus I need to study for some upcoming exams. I would like to help a reader give and donate to his or her favorite charity foundation by helping me study here on the internet. How? Simple. Ask me any question related to medical studies and try your best to make it difficult.

I will answer every question within twenty four hours on my own without attempting to cheat by looking up the answer. If you give me a question that I cannot answer, I will be generous and donate a fair amount to your charity of choice. This will be for only one question, the one that I cannot answer. Start posting your questions today. This ends in the next twenty four hours.

Sorry For The Lack Of Updates Recently

I would like to apologize to all of the regular readers of this blog. I have been working on a number of personal projects over the last few weeks and have not had as much time to work towards writing posts for the blog. I can see from my statistics that readers check in often, that is why I would like to extend my apology one step further.

I am asking that all readers feel free to submit their own ideas for a blog post that they would like to read. It could be a simply question or a topic that you would like to have thoroughly answered and discussed in detail on a blog post. Names will be kept private, so feel free to ask away with your biggest computer questions.

I will be reading them over and answering them in a series of upcoming blog posts. Thank you in advance for your participation.

Check with Your Doctor Before Taking Any Medicine

Medicine is essentially a set of chemical compounds that is given to you for you to get better. These chemicals can have a wide variety of effects on your body at any given time.

When you’re sick, those chemicals help you. They basically drive out the sick from you. They restore your body back to normal.

On the other hand, though, there’s no telling what some medicines might do. Particularly if you suffer from an allergy to a particular ingredient.

That’s why your doctor needs to be kept in the loop as much as possible when it comes to you taking medicine.

5 Reasons That I Love Medical School

I am often asked why I choose medical school while knowing that it is tough, full of stress, and is very challenging. I decided to answer this via my blog. Here are the five reasons that I love medical school:

1. I am joining a centuries old profession. Even in the bible, there are mentions of healers using medicine as a cure. I am proud to be part of that.

2. There is always someone to help. There will always be people who are sick and need medical attention.

3. It challenges me. I am not someone who likes to do the bare minimum; I like to go above and beyond.

4. It forces me to think and analyze my own life. It gives me something to look forward too.

5. It will allow me to help others and provide for myself and my family.

How Hard is the First Week of School?

The first week of school for any semester is generally about as easy as you want it to be.

It’s not like they go out of their way to make it difficult. New classes are starting, and the teachers don’t want to do anything except pass out syllabi and talk about themselves. They don’t want to go to work early unless they’re math and science teachers, in which case there is nothing else they can do.

And how you handle it is going to go a long way toward how hard it is.

You’ll be coming back from vacation. And you’ll be tired, possibly hungover, and the last thing you’ll want to do is to get up from playing Modern Warfare to go to class.

That said, if you get up, go when you’re supposed to go, and pay attention, then there’s really no reason that any of this should be difficult.

Librarians: How Effective Are Your Computers?

If you manage a library that has computers, are they being used effectively? Aside from basic Internet usage and word processing programs, are your computers running the best that they can? In many cases, budgets do not allow for much flexibility with computer systems. This does not need to be the case.

Please get in contact with me, Laith Salma, to learn more about how I can help and provide advice regarding your library’s computing needs. In addition, feel free to ask me any questions via the comment section located below.
